Refocus

You need a fair amount of delusion to make it through this life. Don’t overthink it yet; let me point out something to you. There was a time you dreamed, fantasized, or wished about where you are now. I know you have had some unanticipated things happen; maybe it completely changed your life or shifted your focus. It doesn’t change that you are living out that little controlled world in your head, even if it’s just how you smile.

While you dreamed, you left many things out of the lovely story you mapped out. For instance, you did not expect the death of a loved one, losing money, or getting hurt by people and situations. Although all these are out of your control, their inevitability is unavoidable.

So, it is not ignorance or avoidance that births this delusion. It is the sheer act of courage that you will make it through despite the possibility that bad things might happen. Moreover, it isn’t what hits you but how many times and how hard you can get hit and stand up again.

So it’s safe to live in Delulu land. What would be the point of tomorrow if you don’t have an idea of what it might look like? If there’s nothing to look forward to, our moments will be irrelevant. This is where delusion comes in. Last week, I mentioned how we make decisions to avoid unfavorable outcomes without any thoughts of preparation for the unfavorable.

But I get it now, and I was too quick to judge. Being delusional is entirely normal; there is no way you can experience true peace without that. The issue is when reality catches up with you, and you refuse to budge. As much as your delusions are safe, you must accept that they are not accurate and eventually let them go.

If you will be better this year, you must have believed there is no other choice. Now, that is the delusion I am talking about. Not 10 million dollars landing on your front door. This particular delusion thrives on the foundations of your awareness. You know things could get bad, but it doesn’t stop you from chasing the good.

You live life despite the highs and lows, not because of them. Delusion is not a solution, but you need the environment of possibilities it creates. Will I pick up writing if I consider days when no one will read my posts?

Do not be delusional so you can wiggle out of responsibilities or choose not to face reality, but create the kind of life you want regardless of anything threatening it. It’s the courage you need to get up again when knocked down. You didn’t expect life to happen, but it has, and it’s now time to refocus on what you expect instead.

Song of the moment – High by Stephen Sanchez.

Have a fulfilling week, and I’m always grateful for you.❤️
