Have you ever wondered why doing something you’re not supposed to do always feels like the right thing to do?
Let’s be honest here. I don’t think anyone would gladly pick a life of suffering over comfort. Asides the mundanity or boringness it might bring, it’s almost peaceful and no stress, who wouldn’t?
If there were to be a trade at this moment, I will gladly oblige and I know I’m not alone in this. Almost everyone’s primary goal is to be comfortable and live life on your own terms. That’s why we work so hard, right?
But if you know that, and if that’s your motivation, how come your brain will always take the easy way out?
Netflix instead of learning, endless scrolling on social media instead of planning, talking and fantasizing about the life you want instead of actually putting in the work.
There are always options and nine times out of ten, your brain will go with the easier option. It’s not just you either, it’s how we’re all wired. You can fight against it and push all you want, but at the end if the day, you’ll still want the easy way out.
They say there are no shortcuts to success. You either take the long route or you don’t, but if someone were to offer you the cost of your dreams right now, what makes you certain you’re going to refuse?

Do I have your mind in the right place? I think so, because it is at this point I always check out and ask myself why? What’s the point of all this? Everything you work so hard for, why do you do it?
We all have our whys and being judgmental or critical of someone’s why does not make yours any more valid. I’m not here to tell you whose why is the greatest or which is valid, or not. I’m here to remind you that your brain needs a why.
It’s that thing that jolts you whenever you want to take the easy way out, like an alarm clock wired into your brain and goes off at the slightest deviation from the track.
It has to be solid, cogent, true, and will stand the test of time. Add physical to the mix if you may. The more potent your potion is, the easier it is to resist mediocrity.
For context, I’ll give you two examples of mine. Power bikes and my sister.
Every time a power bike passes by me, here’s what my brain interprets the revving to mean- “you’re not the one riding that”
That phrase instantly gets me out of whatever time wasting activity I’m on.
My sister and I have big dreams. We spend a lot of time planning out details of our future and each time I speak to her (every day lol); I ask myself, is this the year we get to go on that vacation?
Now, except power bikes suddenly go extinct or we eventually go on vacation every year, I think the why is pretty solid.
Who’s your why? What’s your why? Or just why? You need to figure it out soon. It’s like the bullseye of your dreams. Hit it first and you’re halfway there!
