How much effort do you put into your appearance if you don’t consider yourself stylish or a fashionista?

You want to look good, yes, but you also just want to get by the day, not fussing over your look.

Well, if this is your dilemma, welcome to the club. Nine times out of ten, I’ll pick a t-shirt and jean over any other available options.

That doesn’t work because people are not mind readers. You’ll have to dress to play the part unless your intention is to surprise your audience, which can’t always play to your advantage.

So, what’s the way out? Well, I have come up with three tips. Mind you, my sister still thinks I have zero style. But these are not style tips, so you’re safe.

Tip one – Know yourself

If you could describe yourself with one word, what word would that be? It’s important that you have a self identity that has nothing to do with other people and their opinions. You don’t have to lie to yourself and if you’re going to be stylish without the fuss of being stylish; be comfortable being you.

Tip two – Know what you like

Favorite color, pattern, hairstyle and all those little things reflect you. Things you like are your default options. They require little thought for choice. It doesn’t matter if it’s weird or uncommon. Let nothing or anyone bully you out of your choices. It’s what you like. The world can live with it.

Tip three – Know the setting/audience

Now this is the tricky part. Your audience is always dynamic, and you don’t want to give the wrong impression. Neither do you want to portray who you’re not, so what do you do?

You would not wear the same thing to a date and a music concert or to a church and the beach. For every setting, there’s a style in place. You’re not working out of ignorance. So, following the set style, reflect on who you are and what you like.
