Misplaced priorities

Take the high road

If you are a Nigerian, living in Nigeria, I’m sending you love ❤️ and light 💡 You need it, you are going through a lot and it’s easy to slip into hopelessness.

But don’t, please, just hang in there, I am not trying to stir up your faith in this country, I don’t even have any left. I just do not want your faithlessness to creep into all the other factors that determine the quality of your existence.

If you have always wondered what priorities are, I’ll give you an example of misplaced ones; Nigeria. You remember scale of preference back then in school, Yeah, Nigeria would have been a woeful economics student.

Back when we were younger, we did things for instant gratification, like the sweets we would buy after school rather than transporting home comfortably.

It’s different now, the weight of responsibilities even has tolls on your mental health, not just your bank account. We easily say we are now adults and complain about how hard adulting is but frankly most of us have never outgrown being the kid that does things just for the sake of doing it, and not a means to an end.

This child is a part of us and has rippled all the way to our Government, for them, incapacitating it’s citizens feels much better and easier than creating a system that works.

Instant gratification is like being a slave to your feelings, you only do the things you feel like doing or the things which only feel good.

Enough of throwing blames though, this mess we are in must have started with a single person’s childish instincts, leading to misplaced priorities, seeking out solace in people with the same personality issues, building a team, acquiring power and then taking an entire country down the negative stairwell.

But how about you and I though, how is this any of our fault? If we think critically, we don’t even deserve this. We also know that change starts with us, and remember we have moved past just knowing, we deal with actions now, so let us quit the blame game, shall we?

It’s getting really boring and tiring, if we are going to make changes on a large scale and if we do not want our children’s future to look like what we have now, we have to set our lives in order.

It’s a personal responsibility, for the good of the entire community. Set your priorities right now or there would really be not much difference between you and a Government who has misplaced ones.

So, yes, that dress would look better if I exercised more, it definitely can wait, those shoes just pushed back my IELTS date another month, and no, I do not have to lie on that receipt, I am just enabling the downward slope of the economy and devaluing honesty.

Prioritization is the activity that arranges items or activities in order of importance to each other (values too). Truth is, most of us already do this, but we also exercise selective participation. We only use prioritization on certain area of our lives.

An example would be me doing really great in my career and then gradually slipping into obesity, or a lung disease. Or managing my finances really well but I just never seem to be punctual. Whether you admit it or not, there is someone or something you will always value over everything else.

Is it really worth it though? Will it matter in the long run, as short as a lifespan is, you still have to live through it, and you owe it to yourself to do it properly.

Thank you again for stopping by today🥰 i hope you learnt something and will share with others. I always love to know what you think so I’ll be expecting your comments😃

This is very commendable. In the times we’re in right now people need to understand that we need to prioritize the future more than the present more than ever before. The country is going towards a downward slope and very fast. We need to do more in terms of securing our future which isn’t easy compared to what our parents had to face but that’s our reality now. We need to work twice as hard now and we owe it to our future. It is good we make certain sacrifices now, this is not the time to impress anyone by trying to “chop life”, acquiring the best gadgets or nicest clothes when we know money can be put into good use to secure our future. Those who have enough can do it, but if you don’t we need to set our priorites right. Nice peice as usual miss Grace. Hope to see more insightful write ups from you in the future. keep up the good work. Cheers!!!

To be honest we all needed this, sometimes is easy to set priorities but as you have rightly said we participate selectively and tend to ignore some aspects. Thank you for this♥️
