How long does it take you to adapt to changes? You cannot expect anything or everything to remain the same. It grows, changes or dies. All these processes, and you have to keep up. Say you have to move to a new neighborhood now that you can afford to. Do you act like a resident the day you move in, or do you need a few weeks to adjust?
This is not only about moving houses, how about when relationships end, when projects do not work, or when you can no longer do something you used to love? How does adapting work for you? You might have never given it serious thought, and that’s why I am here to remind you.
Last time we talked about being familiar with your thoughts, how about your patterns, your character, or your coping mechanisms? We have all accepted ourselves to some extent. If you are above 25, you know there isn’t much that fluctuates in your body except your weight (excluding plastic surgery)
You should have come to terms with looking like this for most of your adult life, until you’re much older. But that is just the basis of what you should know about yourself. There are reasons you are the way you are and think the way you do.
It’s this data that creates a pattern, shapes your character, makes you predictable, and defines how long you adjust to fresh changes. It’s about the level of awkwardness you felt constantly during puberty, but now it’s your mind that is awkward.
But here’s where you make a mistake, because you have accepted your body the way it is, you’re resistant to changes in your mind. You think all that needs to happen has already happened. So, if it takes six months to live in regret over a failed project, you say that’s me. Or you keep someone who clearly does not want you in their life. You say you don’t give up on people.
I understand it took a lot to accept your body. On some days, you felt ashamed, even insecure, before you learned to love yourself this way. Why do you think your mind will be any different? I asked how long it takes to adapt to novelty because I just went through one myself, and we are here to learn from each other.
I observed that I am resistant to changes that are not defined. If who or what I need to be in a new phase is not clear enough, I will most likely remain in my old shell. But it’s the other way around for changes that are clearly defined because I can picture who I need to be and what I need to do.

For you, maybe mysteriousness and being vague are not problems. You might even be totally resistant to very specific changes, like changing your music taste. This isn’t about pointing fingers to see who is wrong or right; it’s about increasing your level of introspection. How long it takes to adapt to something new, as well as how you adapt, matters.
The when is as important as the how, and if it isn’t right, it’s okay to heal, grow, and be better. Remember, your mind has endless possibilities for growth. It never stops until you tell it to. Don’t just accept it like you have your body. Push forward a little more, and when you think it’s enough, push again.
I hope you have a truly beautiful week. If you are a marvel fan, this article should remind you of Doctor Strange, so here’s a song from the movie – Shining star – Earth, Wind & Fire
