The Fear of Taking Risks

Hi!😊 Welcome back to Grace’s blog, thank you for being consistent and always letting me have a part of your time. To my new readers, it’s such an honour to be graced with your attention and the presence of mind, I hope this will not be the last time.

Periculophobia, the fear of taking risks is something we all suffer from, unfortunately. Everyone lives in constant fear of something. Because we have no control over our fate, what happens to us the next second might alter our lives forever. So yes, why would you risk a sure moment for something that is a probability.

You don’t want to always wonder

That’s how our brain sees risks, it always overestimates the consequences of any situation, leaving you with possibilities that feel too huge to be risked. Sadly, we go through most part of our lives like this. Because we can never really see into the future, we are mentally restricted to the security that stability brings.

However, living life this way is draining. As much as you think you are safe from the bad consequences, you are also shielding yourself from the good consequences you could have gotten if you took that risk. We are not hopeless though, I’m here to remind you of that, because even the hardest things sometimes have great benefits attached.

No, I don’t have a solution as I am also a victim of this fear. But I thought about how we deal with this fear while leading fulfilled lives and not letting it stop us from actualizing our dreams.

We have two options, we either live in spite of the fear of taking risks or because of the fear of taking risks.

In spite of periculophobia, we are scared, aware that we are scared but we still go on regardless. It’s like an ever looming shadow hanging over your thoughts and actions, always whispering to you all the reasons you shouldn’t be taking that risk. This option requires a lot of work, you always have to actively choose to act in spite of that looming shadow.

“Because of periculophobia” is the way I have decided to go. I have something to prove this way. I am face to face with the shadow, it is not looming over me, whispering negativity into my ears, but it’s staring right at me.

I’m looking at it square in the eye and saying; “I am doing this because I’m scared and you may be right, this may not end well but your presence is giving me just the motivation I need to be able to say to your face that it worked or that it didn’t, let’s try something else”.

What I want you to take from today’s article is that life will always go on, with or without your choices but also some things will never happen if some choices are not made. It’s like a chain of events, living your life by design requires you to begin the cause so that you can have the effect.

Thank you for reading through! 😊😊 Today’s song is a smooth vibe that helps keep you going.
